Cody Gakpo Urges Netherlands to Stay Alert Against Fit Alexander Isak in Crucial Clash with Sweden
After a challenging debut season at Liverpool marred by injuries, Alexander Isak has bounced back, showcasing his fitness and talent by netting his first World Cup goal in Sweden's emphatic 5-1 victory over Tunisia.
"We were thrilled to see him return to the pitch, and as the tournament progressed, he not only regained his fitness but also found the back of the net and delivered a strong performance," Gakpo shared with the media.
"It's no secret how talented he is, and we must remain vigilant against him," he added, highlighting the need for focus.
Gakpo emphasized the urgency for the Dutch team to secure a win following their 2-2 draw against Japan in their opening match. However, he downplayed any notion of increased pressure as they gear up to face a formidable Sweden squad, which saw impressive displays from both Isak and Viktor Gyokeres against Tunisia.
"We understand the necessity of winning to advance from the group stage. Sweden's recent result was fantastic for them, but we must keep our focus on what we can control and how we can improve," remarked the 27-year-old forward.
He noted that the Netherlands would draw lessons from their initial match against a disciplined Japanese defense, particularly in navigating tight spaces.
"While the challenges may be similar, Sweden's tactical setup could differ slightly. We plan to analyze that tomorrow and develop a game plan aimed at maximizing our chances," he stated.
The Netherlands will take on Sweden in Houston this Saturday, while Tunisia and Japan will face off in Monterrey later that day.
