Bellingham: England Remains Unfazed After Goalless Draw with Ghana

Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances at Boston Stadium, England struggled to penetrate a disciplined Ghanaian side that defended resolutely while posing a significant threat on the counter-attack.

England controlled a staggering 78.8 percent of the ball and recorded 19 shots on goal, yet Thomas Tuchel's team lacked the decisive finishing that had characterized their exhilarating 4-2 victory over Croatia in their Group L opener.

For Bellingham, however, the stalemate served as a reminder of the necessity to adapt to varied styles of play from different opponents in major tournaments.

"We're not only going to play teams from Europe or what we're accustomed to," the 22-year-old midfielder remarked to reporters after making history as the youngest player to earn 50 caps for England.

"It's incredible to face a strong African opponent so early, as they present completely different challenges, and we witnessed that today.

"Breaking them down was a tough task. They were exceptional on the counter-attack, consistently instilling a sense of caution in us whenever we pushed forward.

"The beauty of the World Cup lies in the opportunity to compete against teams, players, and styles of play that you typically don't encounter. This experience will undoubtedly benefit us as we progress through the tournament."

Entering the match with the knowledge that a victory would secure their place in the knockout stages, alongside World Cup powerhouses Argentina, France, and Germany, England left the field frustrated after failing to convert their dominance into goals.

"It was very frustrating," Bellingham admitted. "We seem to have a bit of a 'second game fever' that always hits us.

"In all the tournaments I've participated in, it has been the same: a solid performance to kick off followed by a good win, then a frustrating second match due to how the opposition defends and sets up.

"Full credit to them; they executed their game plan perfectly. We couldn't quite break them down, despite all the corners, possession, and long-range efforts on goal."

Harry Kane came closest to scoring in the 86th minute but unfortunately blasted his shot over the bar after substitute Nico O’Reilly struck the crossbar with a header.

Bellingham reassured that there was no sense of panic within the dressing room.

"I told him not to waste all the goals now," he joked. "No worries, no stress, no drama at all in the dressing room... with four points, we’re in a good position."

“As one of the experienced players, my message has been to stay positive and maintain the good atmosphere we’ve created. It’s not the end of the world."

Looking ahead, England will shift their focus to Panama in their final group match, where a victory would ensure their advancement to the knockout stages.

"It’s one of those things; it happens," Bellingham concluded. "It’s crucial for us and for you in the media not to become overly negative or overly fixated on this result.

"We’ll analyze the footage to identify areas for improvement and prepare thoroughly for Panama."
