Algeria's Coach Petkovic Comments on Messi's Historic Hat-Trick in World Cup Opener
In a stunning display during Argentina's title defense, Lionel Messi dismantled the North African side, leading his team to a decisive victory. While Algeria's coach, Vladimir Petkovic, praised the 38-year-old superstar's performance, he acknowledged that his players had given Messi too much space to operate.
"Class is permanent, and we are not discussing just any player; we are talking about a footballer who has claimed the Ballon d'Or seven or eight times throughout his illustrious career," Petkovic stated.
He lamented, "Unfortunately, we allowed him opportunities with both the first and second goals, making it easier for him to find the back of the net.
"Messi, with his sharp instincts at critical moments, can accomplish things with remarkable ease."
Petkovic further noted, "He benefits from the entire Argentina team working in unison to support him, and for many years—indeed, decades—he has been performing miraculous feats. Today, Argentina registered 10 shots, with seven of those originating from Messi himself.”

lgeria's goalkeeper, Luca Zidane, could have reacted better to Messi's opening goal, and he later faltered on a shot, allowing Messi to tap in his second goal shortly after the hour mark.
Messi sealed his hat-trick in the 76th minute with a powerful strike, expertly set up by substitute Nico Gonzalez.
“It’s not in my nature to single out players for blame, but we did make several mistakes that allowed the Argentina players to have clear shots on goal,” Petkovic remarked.
“We can hold ourselves accountable, but it’s crucial that we learn from this experience and improve.”
The coach emphasized the importance of regrouping as Algeria prepares for their upcoming Group J matches against Jordan on June 22 and Austria five days later.
“We shouldn’t dwell too much on the three goals conceded, but we also need to find a better balance,” he added.
"We need to circulate the ball more swiftly. Our next opponents will present a different challenge, so we must adjust our expectations, yet remain confident because we know we are capable of achieving great things.”
