Coach Arnold Remains Optimistic After Iraq's Setback Against Norway
Norway's star striker, Erling Haaland, ignited the scoreboard in the 29th minute. Although Aymen Hussein briefly equalized for Iraq, Haaland quickly restored Norway's lead just before halftime.

This marks Iraq's first appearance in the World Cup in 40 years, and Coach Graham Arnold expressed optimism about their performance despite the loss.
"We applied good pressure on Norway," Arnold stated. "However, a few mistakes against players of this caliber will always be punished. We need to learn from these errors."
The Australian coach pointed out that Norway's second goal, resulting from a weak back pass to Iraq's goalkeeper, Jalal Hassan, was a pivotal moment in the match.
"That incident likely affected the players mentally," Arnold acknowledged. "I did my best to encourage them, reminding them to focus on moving forward and not dwell on the past."
Despite the defeat, Arnold reassured that Iraq still has a solid chance to advance to the knockout stage.
Norway currently leads Group I on goal difference, with France also securing three points after a 3-1 win over Senegal.
Under the World Cup's expanded 48-team format, where the best third-placed teams can also progress, Arnold insisted there was no reason to panic.
"We are in the group phase, with nine points up for grabs," he emphasized. "We must focus on the positives from today and prepare for our next match."
"There is still the possibility of securing third place. Three points could be enough to advance," he added.
Arnold also praised Hussein for his resilience, particularly after a season plagued by injuries.
"For him to play the full 90 minutes with such energy, and to score a goal, was remarkable," he said.
Looking ahead to the upcoming match against France, Arnold urged supporters to continue backing the team.
"Be proud of the players," he urged. "Keep supporting the boys and maintain a positive spirit."
