England have been dealt an early setback ahead of their World Cup campaign after defender Tino Livramento was forced to withdraw from the squad through injury.

As a result, England head coach Thomas Tuchel has turned to Trevoh Chalobah as his replacement.

Under FIFA regulations, teams are permitted to replace an injured or ill player up to 24 hours before their first match of the tournament, allowing England to make the late change.

Livramento played the second half of England's 1-0 friendly victory over New Zealand but was subsequently left unused during the team's final warm-up match against Costa Rica.

The latest injury assessment has now confirmed the worst-case scenario, ending his hopes of featuring during the early stages of the tournament.

Chalobah Gets His Chance

The injury opens the door for Trevoh Chalobah, who now receives an unexpected opportunity to be part of England's World Cup squad.

The defender is no stranger to Tuchel, having previously worked under the German coach during their time together at Chelsea.

That existing relationship is likely to have played a role in the decision, with Tuchel already familiar with Chalobah's qualities, versatility and understanding of his tactical demands.

Despite his experience at club level, Chalobah remains relatively new to the international stage.
