Tielemans Expresses Pride in Belgium's Stunning Comeback Against Senegal

Tielemans Expresses Pride in Belgium's Stunning Comeback Against Senegal

It was an extraordinary afternoon for the Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans, who not only netted two crucial goals but also found himself in a heated exchange with teammate Leandro Trossard during the second half of what was, until the 85th minute, a frustrating day for the Red Devils.

However, a dramatic turnaround occurred with two goals in just three minutes: the first from Romelu Lukaku, followed swiftly by Tielemans' strike, propelling Belgium into extra time. He later sealed the victory with a penalty after being fouled by Lamine Camara, which was confirmed by a VAR review.

This goal marked the latest score in World Cup history.

“I’m very proud of that and to bring us over the line.”

The clash between Trossard and Tielemans nearly derailed Belgium's comeback, with the captain animatedly gesturing at his teammate after another play stalled. A timely hydration break allowed both players to cool down, and they eventually combined brilliantly for the team's equalizer in the 89th minute.

This victory ensures that Belgium will remain in Seattle for an additional five days as they await their next challenge, facing either co-hosts USA or Bosnia & Herzegovina for a coveted spot in the quarter-finals.

This extended stay means less travel for Tielemans and his teammates, a factor that could prove advantageous as they progress.

He remarked: “We’re very happy to stay here to avoid a lot of travelling as well, which in the end can make a difference.”
