Tuchel Confirms James Injury Blow but Backs England to Finish the Job
England remain firmly in control of Group L heading into their final group-stage clash with Panama, but manager Thomas Tuchel has been dealt an untimely setback after confirming Reece James will miss the match through injury.
Despite the defensive blow, Tuchel remains confident the Three Lions have enough quality to secure qualification and continue their push for World Cup glory.
Reece James Ruled Out
The Chelsea full-back did not travel with the England squad after picking up a minor hamstring injury in training.
Tuchel revealed James had been unable to train over the last two days and will sit out the Panama encounter as he continues an accelerated rehabilitation programme.
"Reece has a minor hamstring injury," Tuchel explained.
"He wasn't able to train during the last two days."
"Nobody expected it because he was feeling good and in excellent condition."
Although the news is disappointing, the England boss remains optimistic the experienced defender can return later in the tournament.
"We believe he can still play an important role for us."

Race Against Time
While Tuchel hopes James will recover in time for the Round of 32, he admitted the schedule leaves little margin for error.
"It's tight," he admitted.
"But we'll assess him day by day."
England's medical staff are now working around the clock to have one of their most important defenders available for the knockout rounds.
Positive News for Saka and Rice
There was, however, encouraging news elsewhere.
Concerns surrounding Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Elliot Anderson have eased significantly after all three returned to training.
Rice and Anderson completed the latest session after recovering from minor knocks picked up during England's goalless draw against Ghana.
Tuchel also confirmed that Saka is now fully fit.
"He's completely free from discomfort and ready to play," the German coach said.
Apart from James, the remainder of the squad is available for selection.
Transfer Rumours Won't Distract England
Elliot Anderson has recently been linked with a high-profile move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City.
Tuchel, however, dismissed suggestions that transfer speculation could affect England's preparations.
"Transfers take time," he said.
"We understand these things are happening."
"But our full focus is on the World Cup."
Any discussions regarding Anderson's future will wait until after England's match against Panama.
No Room for Complacency
Although Panama have already been eliminated, Tuchel warned his players against underestimating their final group opponents.
The England manager expects a disciplined side with nothing to lose.
"Panama are very well organised," he said.
"They can play with complete freedom because there is no pressure on them."
That makes them a dangerous opponent.
England currently sit top of Group L with four points, level with Ghana but ahead on goal difference, while Croatia remain within striking distance on three points.
A positive result against Panama would secure England's place in the knockout stage and potentially guarantee top spot in the group.
For Tuchel, the objective is simple.
Finish the group strongly.
Recover key players.
And head into the knockout rounds with momentum firmly on England's side.
