Norway's long-awaited return to the World Cup could hardly have started better.

"Mané is a fantastic player," he admitted.

"But for us, the most important thing is to stay true to our identity and continue playing the football that brought us here."

Haaland Carrying the Dream

If Norway are dreaming of a deep World Cup run, much of that hope rests on the shoulders of Erling Haaland.

The Manchester City superstar scored twice against Iraq and once again looked unstoppable whenever he found space near goal.

Solbakken, however, wants none of that conversation.

"We are not doing calculations," he said.

"We are focused only on improving, performing well and taking the next step."

The approach reflects the mindset that helped Norway dominate qualifying.

The team won all eight qualification matches, scoring an astonishing 37 goals along the way.

That attacking confidence has carried seamlessly into the World Cup.

Concerns Over the Pitch

One issue that did catch Solbakken's attention before kickoff was the playing surface.

After inspecting the field, the Norwegian manager admitted he was not entirely convinced by the conditions.

According to Solbakken, the pitch felt unusually hard and fast, resembling an artificial surface more than natural grass.

For a team that likes to control possession and build attacks patiently, that could become a challenge.

"The pitch is short and quite hard underneath," he explained.

"It can make things difficult for teams that want to dominate the ball."

Fortunately for Norway, weather conditions may help.

Rain is expected before the match, which could soften the surface and improve the flow of play.

Still, Solbakken knows there is little point complaining.

"We cannot change it," he said.

"It is what it is."

The stakes could hardly be higher.
