Argentina to Rotate Squad Against Eliminated Jordan; Messi May Sit Out

The South American powerhouse has clinched the top spot in their group and secured a place in the round of 32 after triumphing over Algeria 3-0 and Austria 2-0, with Lionel Messi netting all five of their goals.

As they prepare to face the Group H runners-up in Miami on July 3, Argentina's head coach, Lionel Scaloni, is anticipated to rotate his squad for the match against Jordan.

Messi himself could be rested, with Nico Paz poised to take the field in place of the talismanic forward, who celebrated his 39th birthday on Wednesday and has recently recovered from a muscle strain.

"The plan is to give most players a chance to play. They deserve it, and whenever the match allows, we will do so," Scaloni shared with reporters.

Increased Playing Time

Players returning from injuries—including striker Julian Alvarez, left-back Nicolas Tagliafico, and midfielder Leandro Paredes—are likely to see increased playing time.

"I didn't arrive in the best shape for the friendlies, but I feel great now. I'm here to support the team and fulfill the role assigned to me," stated Alvarez, who came off the bench in the first two matches.

Defender Cristian Romero is expected to miss the match after sustaining an injury during the victory over Austria, with veteran Nicolas Otamendi anticipated to step in for him.

Argentina's defense has yet to face a significant challenge, leaving some uncertainties in that area.

Jordan, making their tournament debut, was eliminated following a 3-1 defeat to Austria and a 2-1 loss to Algeria. However, coach Jamal Sellami expressed that the upcoming clash against the defending champions presents an opportunity for his side to make a lasting impression.

Sellami acknowledged that his players' inexperience may have contributed to their defeat against Algeria, but he expressed pride in their World Cup journey despite the early exit.

Argentina and Jordan are set to meet in Arlington, Texas, while Austria and Algeria will face off simultaneously in Kansas City.
