In a stunning display of dominance, Senegal showcased their prowess at Toronto Stadium, decisively defeating a 10-man Iraq team and achieving the largest victory by an African nation in World Cup history.

While coach Pape Bouna Thiaw applauded his players for their impressive performance, he maintained a measured perspective on their display.

"Even though we scored five goals, there are still improvements to be made," he remarked during the post-match press conference.

The West Africans now face a tense wait to determine if they will advance to the round of 32 as one of the eight best third-placed teams, with their fate resting on the outcomes of the remaining group stage matches.

"Now we have to wait. We have three points secured, but there are other matches to consider, so we hope Senegal can qualify," Thiaw added.

Currently, Senegal sits third in Group I, trailing behind France and Norway.

The coach also offered heartfelt praise for midfielder Pape Gueye's relentless drive and winger Sadio Mane's significant contributions to the team's success, with Gueye netting two goals in the match.

"He embodies the team spirit... he excels on the pitch and is invaluable defensively," Thiaw noted when discussing Mane's impact.

Post-victory, Thiaw expressed his newfound peace of mind.

"This country stands firmly behind us, and we give our all to make them proud," he concluded.
